Sarah Devincenzi was born in the town of Emsworth on the south coast of England in 1968. Art, craft and design have been her bywords since before her formal training in the mediaeval guild skill of sign-writing.
Amongst other artistic projects in her youth, Sarah deployed her expertise under commission for a national commercial chain, painted murals and managed a company of signsmiths. Sarah arrived in Gibraltar in 1990, during a year of travelling with friends, and she loved it so much she never went home!
She continued her career in commercial art before starting a family but has more recently expanded her repertoire under the auspices of the Gibraltar Arts and Crafts Association to include producing mixed-media artworks, original pieces of jewellery and vessels using papier mâché. Sarah also taught children's classes on local history using the medium of art.
Working with the accomplished Sam Benady on this pictorial history of Gibraltar has presented a new and very special personal and artistic challenge.
For Sarah, this work has been a labour of love and a way of honouring her beloved adopted home.
