Justin Bautista, will be discussing Gibraltarian food and its influence on local culture in an ‘In Conversation’ event.
Mama Lotties is the brainchild of Graphic Designer, Justin Bautista. Born out of pure passion for home cooking and inspired by his grandmother, Mama Lotties brings together all of Gibraltar’s recipes, with the aim of sharing with the World what Gibraltarian cuisine is all about.
Gibraltarian cuisine is inspired from a range of cultures such as Maltese, Genoese, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and Moroccan to name a few. With so many choices, it’s no surprise that we are feeders, but Gibraltar wasn’t always so lucky. Gibraltar suffered much in the past, as Gibraltar is small and produces no substantial agriculture, fresh food during the times of the great siege and frontier closing was scarce, meaning locals had to adapt meals to suit what they had, and so stodgy, filling meals such as potajes became part of our diet.
